PTE Exam Fees 2026-2027 : Registration, Cancellation and Rescheduling Costs For Indian Students

Before you sit down to register for PTE Academic, it helps to understand the full fee structure – not just the registration cost, but what happens if you need to cancel, reschedule, or retake.

Most students look at the base fee and stop there, which means unexpected charges when life intervenes and plans change.

This article covers what PTE Academic costs in India for 2026-27, what the different versions of the test cost, and what the fee implications are if you need to change your test date or cancel entirely.

PTE Academic Registration Fee in India

The standard registration fee for PTE Academic in India for 2026-27 is INR 18,900. This fee includes 18% GST.

There is also a late booking fee that applies if you register within seven days of the test date: INR 2,500 extra on top of the standard registration fee.

If you need to book on the same day as the test – which is possible at some centers subject to availability – an additional rush booking fee applies.

The total cost for a same-day booking with all surcharges is significantly higher than booking in advance, and the slot availability is not guaranteed. There is no practical reason to book this way unless you have no other option.

How to Register

Registration is done through the Pearson PTE website at pearsonpte.com. You create a Pearson account, select your test type, find an available test center and date in your city, and complete the booking with payment.

Payment is accepted by debit card, credit card, and net banking. Once payment is confirmed, you receive an email with your booking confirmation and test details. Save this – you’ll need the booking reference number if you need to reschedule or cancel.

Test centers for PTE Academic are available across major Indian cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Kochi, Jaipur, and others.

Availability varies by city and time of year, and centers fill up quickly in peak periods (June to September particularly).

PTE Academic vs PTE Home vs PTE Core

Not all PTE tests are the same, and the fees differ.

PTE Academic is the version accepted by most universities for admission purposes and by Australian immigration for visa and PR pathways. This is the version most Indian students are looking for. Fee: INR 18,900 including GST.

PTE Home is specifically for UK visa applications (UK Visas and Immigration). It tests everyday conversational English rather than academic English. This is not the same as PTE Academic and is not accepted for university admissions. Fee structure is separate – verify on the Pearson website.

PTE Core is designed for Canadian immigration pathways specifically. It tests general, everyday English relevant to life in Canada and is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for certain permanent residence applications. If you’re applying for Canadian PR, confirm with the immigration authority whether you need PTE Core or PTE Academic before registering. Fee: approximately INR 18,900, verify current rates on the Pearson website.

Score Sending : It’s Free

One of the genuine advantages of PTE over IELTS is that score reports can be sent to any number of institutions at no additional charge. You select the institutions you want to receive your scores during your test registration, and Pearson sends them electronically.

You can also add institutions to your score delivery list after the test through your Pearson account at no charge. This is a meaningful practical benefit compared to IELTS, which charges a per-institution fee for score reporting beyond the initial free sends.

Cancellation Policy and Fees

If your plans change and you need to cancel your PTE Academic booking, the refund depends on how much notice you give.

If you cancel more than 14 days before the test date, you receive a full refund minus a cancellation fee of INR 3,135 (including GST).

If you cancel between 7 and 14 days before the test date, you receive a refund of 25% of the test fee, minus the cancellation fee. In practical terms, this means recovering a small portion of what you paid.

If you cancel fewer than seven days before the test date, there is no refund. The full fee is forfeited.

If you don’t show up to the test without canceling in advance, no refund is issued.

The cancellation rules make the financial math clear: if you think you might need to cancel, do it early. Every day closer to the test date is money lost. If you’re more than two weeks out, you at least recover most of the fee minus the cancellation charge.

Rescheduling Policy and Fees

If you need to move your test date rather than cancel entirely, the rescheduling fee varies depending on how much notice you give.

If you reschedule more than 14 days before the test date, the rescheduling fee is INR 3,135 (including GST).

If you reschedule between 7 and 14 days before the test date, the rescheduling fee increases to INR 6,270 (including GST).

If you reschedule fewer than seven days before the test date, the fee is INR 12,540 (including GST) – effectively two-thirds of the original registration fee.

Same-day rescheduling is not typically possible.

The practical implication is that rescheduling costs money regardless of timing, but early rescheduling is considerably cheaper than last-minute rescheduling. If you know your situation is uncertain, keep an eye on your test date and reschedule as soon as you know you need to – not when you’re within a week.

The Additional Retake Cost

PTE Academic can be taken as many times as you need. There’s no limit on attempts. The minimum gap between two test attempts is five calendar days.

Each retake costs the same as the original registration: INR 18,900.

If you’re planning for a retake, factor this into your budget. Students who take the test twice spend INR 37,800. Those who take it three times spend INR 56,700. These are real costs that compound if the preparation isn’t adequate before the first attempt.

The implication is straightforward: investing in proper preparation before your first attempt is financially more efficient than planning to retake. Even expensive preparation courses cost less than an additional full test registration.

Exam Validity

PTE Academic scores are valid for two years from the test date. If you’re applying to institutions or immigration pathways that require current scores, make sure your test date gives you enough validity window.

For university applications, most institutions want scores no older than two years at the time of application, sometimes at the time of enrollment. For Australian immigration, the two-year validity from the test date is standard.

If your scores expire before you receive a visa invitation or complete the admissions process, you’ll need to retest. Build the validity window into your planning before you book.

Tax Receipt and Documentation

The registration fee is paid with GST included. Pearson provides a tax receipt/invoice for each transaction, which is useful for scholarship applications, tax filing, or institutional reimbursement processes.

If you’re claiming an education expense deduction on your income tax or supporting a study loan application with documentation, keep your PTE payment receipts alongside your other exam fee records.
