dMAT Registration 2027 : How to Apply, Eligibility, Fee and Documents

If you’re planning to do a master’s in Germany for the Summer 2027 intake and your field is engineering, commerce, finance, or business management, the dMAT is likely part of your APS process.

Registration opened June 29, 2026, and the last date to register is September 15, 2026.

The exam itself is September 26, and results come out October 12.

This guide walks through exactly what you need, step by step, so there are no surprises on registration day.

Who Actually Needs to Register

Not every student applying to Germany for a master’s needs to sit the dMAT. It applies specifically to students who are applying for master’s programs that require it as part of the admission or APS process, targeting Summer 2027 intake or later, and where the student’s bachelor’s degree falls within the affected fields – engineering, commerce, accounting, finance, economics, or business management.

If your field is outside these categories, the dMAT may not apply to you. And if you started your APS process before June 29, 2026, or your program isn’t in the affected fields, check the exemption criteria before you register.

When in doubt, check the admission requirements of your specific German university and program first. Don’t assume you need the dMAT – confirm it.

Documents to Keep Ready Before You Start

Having these ready before you open the registration portal avoids stopping mid-way:

Valid passport or national ID card. Recent passport-size photograph (digital). Active email address you check regularly. Mobile number. Date of birth. Residential address. Nationality details. Your preferred test centre from the India list. A debit card, credit card, PayPal, or other accepted payment method ready for the €150 fee.

One thing that trips people up: your name and ID details must match exactly what’s on your passport or national ID. If your passport shows your father’s name as part of your first name, enter it exactly that way – no shortening, no variation. Identity mismatches at the test centre are a serious problem and not fixable on exam day.

dMAT Test Centres in India

The dMAT exam is available in India across multiple cities. Current planned centres include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata, Mananthavady, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune.

Select the one closest to you during registration – centre availability and slot availability vary, so register early for more options.

How to Register For dMAT: Step by Step

The entire registration is online through the official portal. The site is in German by default – use your browser’s translate feature to switch to English before you begin.

Step 1 : Go to the official registration portal at www.gast.de/portal/center-search/center-search/dmat/exams/worldwide. You can also find it by searching “Digitaler Master Test registration” and opening the official site from results.

Step 2 : Click “Registration” from the top menu and follow the prompt to start the application.

Step 3 : When asked for your test location, select “Worldwide” (not Germany) since you’re registering from India.

Step 4 : Select the “General Academic Module.” This is currently the only module available on the portal. You are not asked to choose a subject-specific module (Engineering, Business, etc.) – more on why below.

Select your nationality as India from the dropdown.

Step 5 : Choose your preferred test centre from the India list and click “Appointments” to see available dates.

Step 6 : Select an available date and choose either the morning or afternoon slot. Morning sessions typically run around 9:00 to 10:00 AM; afternoon sessions around 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Exact timings are confirmed after booking.

Step 7 : Create your account by entering your name, date of birth, country, email, preferred username, and password. If you already have an account from a previous registration, log in instead.

Step 8 : Enter your residential address and your ID details. Choose the document type – Passport, Identity Card, or Residence Permit – and enter the document number exactly as it appears on the document.

Step 9 : Upload a clear photograph of yourself and select English as your exam language.

Step 10 : Review everything carefully. The fee of €150 (approximately INR 16,355 at current exchange rates) is displayed here. Confirm and proceed to payment.

Step 11 : Complete payment using your card, PayPal, or other available method. Once payment goes through, your slot is booked. Save the confirmation email and take a screenshot of the final booking page – you’ll need these for admission and potentially visa paperwork.

The Fee

The fee is non-refundable if you cancel after the registration deadline, don’t show up for the exam, or leave mid-exam. If you cancel before the registration deadline closes, you receive a refund minus an administrative deduction of up to 15%.

The Subject Module Question Everyone’s Confused About

Many students are confused because they find older dMAT sample papers with domain-specific content – engineering questions for engineers, finance questions for business students, and so on. But the current registration portal doesn’t ask you to select a subject module.

Here’s what’s actually happening: the dMAT currently runs in two parts – a Core Module and a Subject Module. But neither of these requires you to specify your academic specialization during registration. Both parts test cognitive and analytical ability – how you approach problems and apply reasoning – rather than testing memorized subject-specific knowledge.

In other words, there is no separate “dMAT Engineering paper” or “dMAT Finance paper” that you register for differently. You register for the General Academic Module, and both parts of the exam are covered under that.

If you find older resources suggesting otherwise, disregard them. Follow the current portal’s format and check the official dMAT website for any updates, as the exam structure can evolve between intake cycles.

How to Deregister

If your plans change, you can cancel your registration through the dMAT participant portal – but only until the end of the registration period (September 15, 2026). After you submit the cancellation request, the test centre is notified.

Refund on cancellation: if you paid online, you get the registration fee back minus up to 15% in administrative charges. If you paid at a test centre, the centre handles the refund after receiving notification.

If you cancel after the deadline, don’t appear for the exam, or leave during the exam – no refund is issued and no certificate is provided.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Submit

Use an email address you check regularly. All communication from the portal comes by email, including your confirmation and your results.

Double-check your nationality selection. Some students accidentally select the wrong country from the dropdown.

Choose a realistic test centre. Select the one you can actually travel to on September 26. Changing your centre after registration is not always possible.

Don’t delay payment. Your slot is not confirmed until payment is completed. The slot remains open while you’re reviewing, but another applicant can book it before you complete payment.
